ESF has 18,000 students from 75 different nationalities in ESF kindergartens, primary, secondary and all-through schools. About 70% of our students have parents who are permanent residents of Hong Kong. The school year is comprised of two semesters, extending approximately from mid-August to mid-June. Each school differs in its requirements, with some accepting applications from birth and others only a year or two before intended entry. HKIS' High School has an extensive fine arts program, offering numerous the performing and visual arts courses. At least one arts credit is required for graduation, with at least one half-credit course in performance/studio arts and, if only the minimum requirement is met, a one half-credit fine arts survey course. In the Primary School section, the traditionally enclosed classrooms with corridors merge together in a series of large open plan spaces called Villas, each with 125 pupils in the same age group.
